How long does it take to get a British Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)?
There are many routes to qualify for indefinite leave to remain in the UK. You will need to qualify for ILR after completing 5 years in that specific category. For example, the spouse visa route allows you to obtain ILR after completing 5 years as a Spouse. This also applies for a skilled worker visa and other visa categories. Upon obtaining ILR, you would need to usually wait 12 months after the grant of ILR, before you can be eligible to apply for naturalisation as a British citizen subject to meeting the requirements of the rules. These include either the 3 or 5 years residence requirement, Good character requirement, English language test (s), absences and so on.
It is important to get the application right as the Home Office application fees are currently at £1,330 plus £19.20 towards the Biometric fee.
